Personal

I live on Beacon Hill in downtown Boston with my wife Lisa where we enjoy Boston’s nightlife and many fantastic (and not so fantastic) restaurants.

Prior to joining Suffolk in 2007 we lived in California while I taught at San Jose State.  We loved the weather, the mountains, and especially wine country while we were there.

So did my colleague Ed Lopez and his wife Jamie.  We’re at Ridge Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains here.

And of course my colleague Ed Stringham enjoyed wine country with me many times too!

But as much as I enjoyed California I’m happy to be back in the Boston area where my wife and I were both born and raised.

I’m particularly happy to be back near my Boston sports teams.  Despite being away for seven years I remained a die hard New England sports fan.  Now that I’m back, I regularly catch Sox games at Fenway and the Celtics at the TD North “Garden.”

I’m also an active participant in sports.  I play basketball regularly and enjoy golfing as well.  I’ve occasionally been known to join a softball team and I run regularly too.  I ran my first (and likely only) marathon in San Jose last fall.

I’ve hiked many places in the U.S. but also in Europe, Central America, and Africa.  Bob Lawson is my most frequent hiking companion.  Last February he and I climbed Kilimanjaro.  It’s Africa’s highest peak at 19,340 ft.  The summit shot is to the right.  More hiking pictures can be found on my here on my hiking page.
